SPINNING STORIES

Following my father’s deep obsession with tracing our family genealogy, a passion he shared with my grandfather, I was drawn into a journey that extended beyond merely compiling our family archive, which dates back to 1680. My curiosity lay not just in the historical or bloodline connections but in understanding the underlying fascination with our European roots. Spinning Stories delves into my own genealogical background—Italian, Irish, and Chilean—as a foundation for exploring the European colonial legacy, particularly in South America. This project examines how these historical narratives resonate within my artistic practice, reflecting on the complexities of postcolonial and decolonial contexts, and how these dynamics continue to shape identities and relationships between Europe and the so-called "other."
