Another sky in the north

Sea below,
desert above.
Hot in the day,
cold at night.
Salt water downward,
drought upward.
Possible tsunami to the coast,
possible alluvium towards the hill.

South towards Santiago,
north towards Iquique.
Mansions to the south,
camps to the north.
Mining labor towards the interior,
street labor downtown.

Government transition at nationwide,
covid pandemic worldwide.

Contradictions,
parallels.

This is how my stay in Antofagasta began and developed.
Experiencing aesthetic and material paradoxes
as I walked through the city.
I came to search for the migration route in Chile,
and I found many contradictions and complexities.
Migrants of the past, migrants of the present,
migrants in transit and passing through.

I observed, described and analyzed.
I came with an ethnographic and artistic method.
I collected local stories within the city,
I collected lifestories of female neighbors fighters.
I walked, listened and observed.

Global migrations, local migrations.
Re-thinking and re-writing our Chilean history.

Times of post-social crisis,
times of migration and post-migration.
New coexistences,
new reflections around the other.
Re-thinking our Chilean identity,
re-thinking our future.
New learnings.

Observe, describe and respect mobility.
Shifting our eyes,
look to the side, look up
meet our new neighbor.

Crossing the border.
